The *Cultural Caravan for Peace and Solidarity Through Latin America* is a project that brings people together to nurture a deeper and more sustainable solidarity movement-rooted in the arts & healing as a means of social change -between Latin America and communities of color in the United States. We also use the arts & healing to raise awareness about the issues affecting our lives and to bring our communities together. We seek to make connections and understand how each of us works to resist oppression in our communities and how we create & make the world better, to have true solidarity with each other across the Americas.
The Caravan will depart from the United States and promote street theater, poetry, healing, music, and other political and native art forms, while sharing the stories of resistance, transformation, and sociopolitical victories in our communities.
*Through this experience, we hope to:
- Learn from each other ways of working to increase liberation and to decrease violence
- Build and strengthen a movement for peace and justice by supporting local artistic initiatives for social change
- Heal collectively from the effects of violence and colonialism through sharing our personal and collective stories of resistance
- Share ideas and knowledge with the purpose of learning from one another and to strengthen our political, cultural and community work
- Collaborate through community cultural projects
- Support and contribute to the movements to end militarism, violence, inequality, and exploitation in all forms
- Share our Healing work which is integral to making our cultural and political work sustainable and transformative

Itinerary:
The Caravan will tentatively take place from August 5-26 of 2011, and will be visiting Colombia! More details about our trip to be posted soon.
History: How Does the Dream of the Caravan Emerge?
The idea of the Caravan originally emerges from conversations between NYC artists, educators, and activists Tania Romero (of Ecuadorian father and Puerto Rican mother), and Rafael Landron (of Puerto Rican descent). Through the long political and cultural trajectory in Ollin Imgination (an arts collective using art as a tool for organizing and activism), both Tania and Rafael start having conversations about how to bring this work to an international level. Considering they are both intimately connected to Latin America, and deeply inspired by the social/political movements currently taking place there, the idea of the Caravan emerges with the focus of establishing a political cultural movement for social change between Latin America and the United States. They both make a call out to their communities with the goal of initiating this project.
Currently, the Caravan 2011 to Colombia planning team is made up of artists, activists, and educators based in New York City and New Jersey as well as from members of the Mullo Cultural Organization based in Playas, Ecuador.

La *Caravana Cultural por la Paz y Solidaridad por Latinoamérica* es un proyecto uniendo a gente con el propósito de crear un movimiento cultural, social, y político sustentable y solidario entre Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos. Utilizamos el arte y diferentes formas de sanacion alternativa como armas para lograr la concientizacion sobre los problemas que afectan nuestras vidas. Buscamos crear conecciones y aprender sobre como nuestras comunidades resisten las formas de opresion que nos afectan, y como estamos creando el mundo en el que queremos vivir. Fomentamos la solidaridad entre los pueblos a traves del continente Americano.
La Caravana partirá desde Estados Unidos y viajará anualmente por diferentes países Latinoamericanos promoviendo el teatro, la poesía, la música, entre otras formas de arte político, autóctono y nativo de nuestras comunidades. Por medio del arte, y los foros y diálogos comunitarios, compartiremos las historias de resistencia y victorias socio-políticas de nuestra gente.
Por medio de esta iniciativa esperamos:
- Aprender de unos a los otros sobre como trabajar para fomentar la liberacion de nuestros pueblos y como reducir la violencia
- Construir y reforzar un movimiento de paz y justicia social por medio del apoyo de iniciativas culturales y artísticas locales dedicadas al cambio social/político de sus comunidades.
- Sanarnos colectivamente de los efectos de la violencia, la opresión, el colonialismo, y el imperialismo por medio del intercambio de nuestras experiencias e historias de resistencia social y política.
- Compartir ideas y conocimientos con el propósito de aprender los unos de los otros y fortalecer nuestra labor comunitaria.
- Colaborar para organizar proyectos culturales/artísticos para la comunidad.
- Apoyar y contribuir a los movimientos en contra del militarismo, la violencia, inigualdad, y la explotación en todas sus formas.
- Compartir nuestro trabajo de sanacion, el cual es integral en hacer nuestro trabajo cultural y politico sustentable y transformativo.

Historia: ¿De dónde Surge la Idea de la Caravana?
La idea de la Caravana surge de conversaciones entre Tania Romero (de madre Puertorriqueña y padre Ecuatoriano) y Rafael Landrón (Puertorriqueño), ambos artistas, activistas y educadores en la ciudad de Nueva York. Por medio de su larga trayectoria política, educativa, y artística dentro su colectivo de arte Ollin Imaginación, Tania y Rafael empiezan a dialogar sobre como llevar esta labor a un nivel global. Ya que ambos están íntimamente ligados a Latinoamérica, la idea de la Caravana surge, con el enfoque de entablar un movimiento político-cultural por el cambio social entre Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos. Rafael y Tania prosiguen ha hacer un llamado a otros artistas y activistas con el afán de poner en pie esta iniciativa.
Actualmente, el equipo dedicado a organizar la Caravana 2011 hacia Colombia esta conformado por artistas, educadores y activistas residentes de Nueva York y Nueva Jersey, como tambien por miembros de la Organizacion Cultural Mullo en Playas, Ecuador.
